Following enucleation or evisceration surgery, orbital implants and eye conformers are used to occupy the empty orbit and conform the tissue surrounding the eye to prepare the socket for a prosthesis.  Gulden implants and conformers are sold sterile and made (start to finish) in the USA.

Note:  PMMA implants are less expensive than their hydroxyapatite and porous polyethylene counterparts.  This savings advantage is due to the efficiency of the manufacturing process, not inferior quality.  In fact, PMMA implants have a history of much lower exposure rates than hydroxyapatite and porous polyethylene.  In addition, thanks to new techniques, PMMA implants can have the same motility outcomes as much more expensive porous polyethylene implants.

Gulden Ophthalmics manufactures Orbital Implants (also known as Eye Spheres) in several sizes:  10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and 22 mm diameters.  Gulden’s conformers, which are also made of durable PMMA, come in small, medium, and large sizes. In addition to the solid PMMA conformers, Gulden manufactures conformers with holes so that eye drop medications can better perfuse into the patient’s orbit.

Gulden Ophthalmics has been in business since 1938 when the founder invented the prism bar.  Less than ten years later, Gulden began manufacturing implants for enucleation and evisceration patients.  Gulden has a long reputation for safety and quality made in America products.
