The Small Non-Sterile Symblepharon Ring (PMMA) has a diameter of 20mm.
Symblepharon rings are effective in keeping ocular fornices formed after surgery, in situations where conjunctival cicatricial disease is present, or after ocular trauma such as chemical burns or avulsion of the conjunctiva. The ring prevent adhesions and shortening or retraction of the fornices and cul-de-sacs without touching the cornea.
The ring helps to reduce scarring and keep the eyelids away from an irritable or irritated eye, helping to keep the patient more comfortable. In the case of surgery or trauma, they should be inserted as soon as possible to prevent adhesions and/or shortening of the fornices and cul-de-sacs.
