ELKINS PARK, PA – Gulden Ophthalmics has available new Jaeger Lid Plates and Desmarres Lid Retractors that facilitate surgical procedures on patients’ eyes and lids. The tools are constructed of autoclaveable plastic material in a distinctive yellow color. Both the Lid Plates and Retractors are double ended – a different functional size on each end – which makes them highly utilitarian and reduces the number of instruments needed in many procedures. They are ideal for a variety of procedures, including corneal, retinal, glaucoma-related, anterior chamber, and other surgeries.
Their distinctive yellow color makes these tools easier to find among other instruments. Being translucent, the Lid Plates are especially advantageous in that the surgeon can monitor the patient’s pupil under general anesthesia. Or, when the patient is under local anesthesia, being translucent allows light to pass through the lid plates, which is better for patients that may tend to be claustrophobic.
Being non-metallic, these tools are non-reflective, which can help surgeon’s visibility during procedures. Being electrically non-conductive, they can safely be used during electrosurgical procedures.
The Lid Plates from Gulden feature a more concave, ergonomic design, which helps avoid pressure on the cornea and globe; one end is medium sized and the other is larger. The Lid Retractors are available in two models: one features 10 mm and 12 mm ends and the other features 14 mm and 16 mm ends.
Metallic lid plates and retractors are also available through Gulden for procedures that utilize lasers.
