Gulden’s Vital Stain Enhancement Filter Set Increases Visibility of Vital Stains Used in Eye Exams of Both Contact Lens Wearers and Non Contact Lens Wearers

Vital Stain Enhancement Filter SetThe twin filter set in its convenient flip-out case is beneficial in examining and diagnosing dry eye and other conditions and the integrity of the cornea and conjunctiva.

ELKINS PARK, PA – Gulden Ophthalmics has introduced a new convenient-to-use twin filter set that enhances the visibility of vital stains such as Sodium Fluorescein (FL) and Lissamine Green (LG) used in eye exams.

The Ohlson Vital Stain Enhancement Filter (VSEF) Set from Gulden is a yellow and red filter side-by-side set that is typically used in front of slit lamp viewing systems. Compact, convenient, and always ready for use, the filter set easily fits into a pocket.

Fluorescein dye accomplishes clear staining of the cornea, and lissamine green staining appears particularly clear on the conjunctiva. The yellow filter can be used to enhance the visibility of the fluorescein pattern in the examination of the fit of rigid gas permeable contact lenses and high molecular weight fluorescein examination with silicone hydrogel contact lenses. The red filter is used for red lens test and to enhance lissamine green examination diagnosis and assessment of dry eye conditions for both contact lens wearers and non wearers by increasing the visibility of lissamine green staining on the bulbar conjunctiva. Although the filter-enhanced use of the stains is particularly useful in dry-eye diagnosis and clinical trials. The utility afforded by the filters and stains extends far beyond dry eye to numerous other ocular surface conditions that affect corneal and conjunctival cells as well as microtrauma from the edges of contact lenses. It is recommended that the examination of patients complaining of dry eyes, in particular contact lens wearing patients, include as routine, the examination of the conjunctiva with the vital stains and enhancement filters.

The filter set comes in a “flip-out” designed case that prevents scratching of the filters. The filters and case measure 3″ in diameter.
