Gulden Ophthalmics Adds Spanish Language Wormington Near Vision Screening Card to Array of Useful Ophthalmic Tools
ELKINS PARK, PA – Many medical offices and clinics report that 25-50% of their patients speak Spanish as their primary language and have limited English proficiency. In some geographic areas Spanish speaking patients actually outnumber English speaking patients. In order to meet the vision acuity testing needs and obtain reliable results with these patients, Gulden has added a Spanish Language Wormington Card to its standard English version. Armed with the new Spanish Language card, an eye care professional no longer has to wonder if a patient’s reading difficulty is a vision or a language problem.
As with its English version, the Spanish version is specifically designed to be a better tool than the Rosenbaum Card. The known inaccuracies of the Rosenbaum Vision Screener have been corrected in the Wormington Card. Single letters and Spanish text on this new card permit the eye care professional to accurately measure a Spanish-speaking patient’s single letter near-vision and reading acuity – with no interfering language barriers. The card uses New Roman Times, a typical font for newspapers, magazines, and books. A series of tumbling “E’s”, a metric scale, and pupil size array add to the card’s usefulness.
